Podcasts of choice this month

1) Radiolab: Invisible Allies—speaks to some interesting Covid news

2) Freakanomics Radio: How to Make Your Own Luck: interview with a gambler….

Book:

The Man That Stands Before You by Neco is a different read. It is a privately published collection of stories. It reads like someone talking to you and telling stories in a bar. I know the author and in fact, his process is almost just that. The writing is not sophisticated, but the stories feel very real and are told with a sense of humor and irony. The first story, “Someone to Dance With” takes a while to wind up but the scene and finish to the story is Tarantino. This could be a scene in a movie and made me laugh. Try it out!

Music:

Jonathan Richman I Was Dancing in a Lesbian Bar “Quirky”

The choice points in this song are distinctly “Bi”

James McMurtry Song for the Deckhand’s daughter “Folk/rock”

It is about her daddy and I feel like I have known him.

Curtis Salgado/Alan Hagas I Want my Dog to Live Longer. “Blues”

If you love dogs, this is for you

Our Native Daughters Quasheba Quasheba. “Americana”

Really lovely song with perfect instrumentation/vocal

Delbert McClinton No Chicken on the Bone “Swing/Blues”

Kernie hates this song; maybe too close to home?

Chris Hillman/Herbe Peterson Tu Cancion. “Folk”

The old Burrito Brother aged well; this song says it all

The Doors Yes the River Knows. “Classic Rock”

Indeed it does.

Bonnie Raitt and David Lindley Everywhere I go “Jackson Brown cover”

I am not a JB fan but this is a sweetly done cover

Ra Ra Riot Can you Tell. “Alternative/Pop”

Saw them live in Atlanta a year ago; have always liked this

Caetano Veloso Ela e Eu (Ao vivo). “Brasilian”

If you like World Music, you cannot beat Caetano for sweetness
